'Squandering goodwill'
published: Wednesday | January 16, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

I am a Jamaican citizen who believes in this country and sees a bright future for Jamaica and Jamaicans. As such, it is extremely disheartening to see the extent to which the Jamaica Labour Party is squandering whatever goodwill it so grudgingly received on September 3, 2007. If there was ever a time when the party could have gotten away with governing it was between then and now. However, one gets the impression now that Bruce Golding has the burdensome responsibility of carrying the party and the country on his back through what can only be described as a wilderness.

Let us help

While I can sympathise with this position, the fact of the matter is that he is going to have to recognise very early in the game that the buck stops with him. He also needs to realise that there is a vast amount of human resources that are available to him which he will not necessarily find in some VIP lounge in New Kingston. In fact, if he were to embark on a social programme geared at mobilising the spirit of the Jamaican people to perform and to produce around an identifiable vision, then it would make his job so much easier. You see, the task is so great that this Government does not have the luxury of picking who gets to accomplish it.

Mr. Prime Minster, tell the people what is happening. Tell us what you want to achieve and how we can help. Let us help you to leave a legacy of leadership that our children can be proud of.

Let us move forward, together, today.

I am, etc.,

NICORDIA VICKERS
