The Editor, Sir:
The scientific fact that the foetus is a human being is sufficient basis for continued strident objection to deliberate abortion as it is being promoted by this 'advisory group' to which you alluded in the page one story of January 15.
There are several other illegal or socially destructive activities that may result in harm to the perpetrator. Should the response of the state be to make these activities 'safe', or to correct the aberrations which lead to these practices in the first place?
To use an analogy which is not as far-fetched as it may seem, in the process of a homicide, there is a potential hazard to the health and safety of the perpetrator.Well, why not first remove the stigma of illegality then use taxpayers' money to provide a clean protected environment where killers may dispose of their victims?
If abortion is legalised, can infanticide be far behind? If financial strain, emotional stress, inconvenience, or anticipated physical/mental handicap justifies the killing of the unborn child, what moral authority can be used to prohibit the killing of an infant when similar situations arise?
What your attention-grabbing headline well illustrates is that induced abortion (the ultimate act of child abuse) not only kills babies, but also hurts women.
I am, etc.,
