With the scheduled return of Jamaica's Test players from West Indies duties, coach Junior Bennett predicts a difficult time for the local selectors to finalise a squad.
Jamaica cricket team has made it three wins from as many starts in the Carib Beer Series, but with captain Chris Gayle, Brenton Parchment, Marlon Samuels, Darren Powell and Jerome Taylor expected to join the team for the fourth round contest next month against Trinidad & Tobago in Port of Spain, Bennett said it will be difficult to pick the team.
"Yes, definitely," he replied when asked if it will be difficult to pick the team.
"The pool of players in the country has increased and with the Test players coming back now, I think it will be difficult for the selectors to come up with 13 players to tour."
Sure picks
Gayle and Parchment look certain to open the batting, which excludes Xavier Marshall and Donovan Pagon, who opened in the last match, while it is expected that Samuels will bat in the middle-order, likely at number four.
Taylor and Powell also look certain to take up fast bowling positions, which raises doubts about Jermaine Lawson's position in the team, especially as he picked up after poor spells in the first two matches to take eight for 102 against Guyana on the weekend.
"It's better to be in that position than struggle to find quality players to represent the country," remarked Bennett.
Jamaica are leading the seven-team standings with maximum 36 points after registering victories inside three days over the Leeward Islands, Combined Campuses and Colleges and Guyana. Barbados are next on 24 points.
No complacency
Despite moving along merrily under the leadership of Tamar Lambert, coach Bennett says they cannot afford to become com-placent.
"We have two important matches, two tough ones on the road against Trinidad who have been playing consistent cricket over the past three or four seasons, and we also have Barbados."
He added: "Once we get more points than our opponents in those two away games, and maximum against Windward Islands at home, we should be on our way', and I don't see the reason why we should not get it because we will be at full strength. We are in a good position and we just have to capitalise on it."
