Harbour View slip to fourth
published: Tuesday | January 22, 2008

Ainsley Walters, Freelance Reporter

DEFENDING champions Harbour View and Boys' Town on Sunday squandered numerous chances in a goalless Cash Plus Premier League draw which saw the hosts losing third-place in the overall standings to Waterhouse, who blanked leaders Tivoli Gardens 2-0 at Drewsland.

The draw not only put Harbour View out of the top three in the overall table, but also affected their chances of reaching the second-round final, which is three games away.

The point earned moved the defending champions to 14 second round points, two behind Waterhouse, who are also two adrift of second round and overall league leaders Tivoli on 18.

In the overall standings, Harbour View moved to 31 points, dropping down to fourth, one behind Waterhouse, who improved to 32. Boys' Town are eighth on 22 points.

Tivoli remain out front on 36, tracked by Portmore United on 35 following their 0-0 draw with Seba United.

Harbour View missed countless chances to put away Boys' Town, who had a handful of opportunities to break the deadlock themselves.

Firm shot

Boys' Town actually got the first real chance in the 10th minute when Anthony Dawes hesitated instead of shooting past goalie Dwayne Miller on the left side of the box.

Garfield Gillespie tested Miller seconds later when he drove a firm shot at goal from 30 yards.

However, Harbour View should have led in the 16th minute when Xavian Virgo turned a ball straight to Fabian Taylor's feet inside the box, but the league's top marksman fired tamely at goalie Kirk Porter from 14 yards.

Lovel Palmer got a chance from a similar position in the 34th but hit a weak, sliding shot straight to the Boys' Town goalie.

Harbour View again threatened eight minutes after the break when Christopher Harvey arrived too late for Jermaine Hue's floated free-kick at the back post, missing a clear goalmouth chance.

Boys' Town almost made Harbour View pay in the 54th when defender Clifton Waugh slipped inside the area and was rounded by striker Michael Campbell, who brought out a fine reflex save from Miller at his near post.
