World 100m record holder, Asafa Powell, is set to make his seasonal debut at today's eighth staging of the Queen's/Grace Jackson track meet at the Stadium East Complex, starting at 9:00 a.m.

Powell, who holds the record of 9.74 seconds, will be competing in the 400m along with Maximum Velocity Performance (MVP) clubmates and World Championships silver medallist Michael Frater, Nesta Carter and Trinidadian Darrell Brown.

Another World Championships silver medallist, Usain Bolt of Glen Mills' Racers Club, will also take part in the men's 400m as the island's big guns launch their preparation for this summer's Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Several other Jamaican world-class athletes in Olympic relay gold medallists Sherone Simpson and Aleen Bailey, along with sprint hurdler Brigitte Foster-Hylton, will also be making their seasonal debuts, in the 400m.

In their build-up for the annual Boys' and Girls' Athletics Championships, a number of high schools will also be participating at the meet, including boys champions Calabar, Wolmer's, Kingston College, St. George's College, St. Jago, Manchester, Immaculate Conception, Alpha and St. Andrew High for girls.

There will also be a full-strength Queen's team participating along with members of Jamaica's World Cross Country Championship team. A special presentation will be made to Yvonne Keane-Dawes, who has been principal of The Queen's School for the past 15 years and who was instrumental in the staging of the meet.
