Robert Bailey, Freelance WriterHost and defending champions Eltham High recorded their third consecutive victory in this year's Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/Grace Shield cricket competition, with an easy seven-wicket victory over Mona High yesterday.
Mona was bowled out for a paltry 52, with national Under-19 representative Kavon Bonner taking seven for 11.
Nahari McDonald was the major contributor for Mona as he scored 28 not out.
In reply, Eltham reached 55 for three with Shawn Harrison, 23 not out, and Knio-Paul Salesman, 14 not out, scoring most runs.
Oral Simpson, coach of Eltham, then said they are in good knick to win the competition again.
"We played very well, especially in the bowling and fielding depart-ments and I must congratulate Kavon for his excellent bowling performance," said Simpson. "We are confident that we can retain our title, all we need to do is to stick to the basic things and be disciplined out there on the field."
Meanwhile, Jamaica College (JC) registered a 145-run victory over Waterford in another Cor-porate Area match.
Batting first, JC 251-9 declared. Travis Reid (68), Geffery Laing (60) and Elvis Watson (36) were the leading scorers, while Peter Harrison took 4-43 for Waterford.
In reply, Waterford were bowled out for a mere 107. Reid (3-20), Delmar Francis (2-21) and Carlyle Moxam (2-25) were the leading wicket takers for JC, while Marlon Walters top scored for Waterford with 25.
David Robertson, coach of JC, said: "The performance of my team was a little intense and to win the cup we need to be a bit more stable. Our strike bowlers need to be more accurate. However, the batting is good."
