PERFORMER OF THE WEEK: Nash solid as a rock
published: Saturday | January 26, 2008

Brendan Nash ... man of the match in Jamaica's last Carib Beer Series match against Guyana. - File

Australia-born Jamaican batsman, Brendan Nash, scored a chanceless, unbeaten 91 in the first innings to help guide hosts Jamaica to an eight-wicket victory over Guyana in the third round of the regional Carib Beer Series match at Sabina Park on Sunday.

Nash, batting as if his life depended on a good performance, rescued the land of his mother and father after Jamaica had slumped to 28 for three chasing Guyana's first innings 171.

The 30-year-old batted for 300 minutes, faced 263 deliveries, stroked six fours and one six and had three good partners in Wavell Hinds, 53, Nikita Miller, 34, and the last man Andrew Richardson who scored 22.

Final scores: Guyana 171 and 177; Jamaica 240 and 109 for two.

For his outstanding batting performance, Nash has been voted The Gleaner's performer of the week.
