Boys' Town, Seba in lone CPPL clash
published: Thursday | January 31, 2008

Nodley Wright, Gleaner Writer

Champions of the past, Seba United and Boys' Town, will take the spotlight when they go head-to-head at Jarrett Park in a rescheduled Cash Plus Premier League (CPPL) game at 6:00 p.m.

Neither team is in a position for the end-of-round final, but they will consider the three points crucial in the long run.

Of the two, Boys' Town are in a better position in both the overall table and the second-round table. Currently, Boys' Town are on 26 points, 14 behind leaders Tivoli Gardens, for sixth place in the overall table, while Seba United are on 24 in eighth place.

If Seba United were to win this match, they would be able to hurdle both Boys' Town and St Georges to take the fifth and still have a game in hand.

Seba in last place

In the second-round standing, Seba United are sitting in last place on eight points, with two games in hand, while Boys' Town are in fifth position with 12 points.

On the face of it, Seba United, despite the fact that they drew their last two games to Portmore United and Arnett Gardens, should be given the advantage as they are playing at home. Since the introduction of four players in the transfer window, they have added more spark to their team, especially from schoolboy Edward Campbell.

Boys' Town, on the other hand, have beaten St Georges in the last game and drew the previous two with Tivoli Gardens and Harbour View.

Tougher side

Today, they should be a significantly tougher side with the addition of their most-outstanding player for last season, George Vernal, who makes his return from the United States, as well as Denzel Watson and Renea Lloyd from Antigua.

The trio should provide a lot of attacking support for the veteran Oneil McDonald, who provided most of the goalscoring power for the Andrew Price-coached team in their absence.

Seba's coach, Theodore Whitmore, has been busy assisting technical director René Simoes with the national team, but he should be back for this game, along with star defender Keniel Moodie, who should get good support from Seian McNish, the veteran Norman Foster, Mario Samuels and Delroy Ellis.
