HELP! A plea to save our children!
published: Monday | February 4, 2008

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Help! Murder! Rape! You are taking from us the opportunity to become anything but robbers, murderers, rapists, vandals, perverts and extortionists. Stop it now, visit the Spanish Town bus park one morning and you will understand my cry. You will see Jamaica's future dressed in their uniforms waiting patiently to be packed into bus rooms (the new classrooms) to be educated in sex, crime and violence.

Exploited

I have deep concern about our youths and what they are being exposed to in our bus parks, on the taxis and on the buses. Are we not seeing that our students are being polluted, poisoned, corrupted by sexually explicit and violent music. Do you realise that by the time they arrive at school they are only in the mood for sex and violence, and we wonder why we have so many failing students, gang rapes and students being murdered in schools.

The very first thing you hear in the morning is what sticks with you throughout the entire day. Who is speaking out for, who is protecting our children. Where are the parents and the principal to monitor arrival and departure from school. Aren't attendance records checked anymore? Government, the Ministry of Education, it does not matter how free education is if students are not given a chance to learn. Who cares if it free or not?

Where is the media watch to screen songs before airplay and to ban these songs that are destroying our youths? Where is the police, the Ministry of Transport? The disc jockeys don't care if you ruin the future of our country. What are we doing while our sons and our daughters are exposed, exploited, and used. HELP, HELP! WE NEED HELP NOW BEFORE OUR FUTURE BECOMES that of SODOM AND GOMORRAH!

I am, etc.,

MICHELLE ROBINSON
