'Zekes' wants money returned
published: Thursday | February 7, 2008

Donald 'Zekes' Phipps. - File

Former Matthews Lane area leader Donald 'Zekes' Phipps is applying to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court for the return of his $18 million.

The money was confiscated by the police at Phipps' Havendale home, St Andrew, in May 2005.

Phipps and his girlfriend Yvonne Sailsman were charged jointly with unlawful possession of the money but, last week, the Crown withdrew the charge against them.

K. Churchill Neita, QC, who is representing Phipps, is making the application. The matter came before the court on Tuesday but was put off until April 10.

Phipps was convicted in April 2006 for the murder of Rodney Leroy Farquharson and Dayton 'Scotchbrite' Williams. The burnt bodies with gunshot wounds were found on April 15, 2005, in an open lot on Rose Lane, downtown Kingston.

He was sentenced in June 2006 to life imprisonment and ordered to serve 30 years before parole.
