'A under the bed me deh and a tremble and me a chat to me God.'Guns blazed in the hillside community of Industrial Village, St Andrew, Monday night, leaving four young men dead after an attack by thugs.
They have been identified as 17-year-old Wayne Morris, 21-year-old Anthony Williams and 19-year-old Orane Williams, all from Industry Village; and Romeo Walker, 19, of Waterford, St Catherine. While Walker, Anthony Williams and Morris were shot dead, Orane Williams, in a bid to escape, jumped from a bridge, sustained injuries and died on the spot. These men are among the more than 150 persons murdered since the start of 2008.When The Gleaner visited the community Tuesday, which is about one mile from Papine in St Andrew, three police vehicles were parked metres in front of a hilly path leading to the fateful house where the youngsters had their lives abruptly ended. At the house, scene-of-crime policemen were processing the area, looking for clues they had missed the night before.Family members and neighbours in this small and seemingly tight-knit community chatted quietly as the policemen combed through evidence that might offer clues in solving the crime.Shocked
The crowd, a mixture of the young and old, spoke about the killings and all present were shocked by the murders."A history dis. Dis never happen yet and from me a bwoy and me grow up and me never see dis yet," said an elderly male.A middle-age woman expressed disgust at the incident. "This is shameful, shame and disgrace. The Government need to do something about these youths whe don't want to go school, even when them parents send them to school."A woman who was in the house at the time of the incident was thankful that her life was spared and that she was not among the body count. Saying she had just visited the house, the woman said she hid under the bed when the gunmen were pumping bullets into the four young men. The woman, who was clearly distressed, said the trauma was worsened when she heard one of the young men dying."A under the bed me deh and a tremble and me a chat to me God and a say 'no God a no my time dis'. Me feel bad say this happen, it is the first that this has happened in my life," she said. Two persons have been held in connection with the incident.Persons with information can contact Superintendent Selwyn Hay or Deputy Superintendent Errol Grant at the Major Investigation Task Force at 922-9487, 924-9848 or 948-1329, Kingfish at 811 and Crime Stop at 311.
