'Leave' me alone' - The tell-all on how to (or not to) spend your vacation
published: Saturday | February 9, 2008

It's what you've been looking forward to for a long time. All the plans have been made and now you are going off on vacation leave. It's YOU time. So whadda you do? Throw off the baggage of daily routines, indulge in your fantasies, or blend in with your living room paint and become a couch potato? It's high time for relaxation, to get away from that stressful job and 'breeze' out your head space.

Twenty persons took part in our mini-poll and gave us the down low on vacation dos and don'ts. Below are comments from some of them.

- Nadine Wilson

  • Turn off your cellphone and your laptop

    Do: 5% Don't: 95%

"I can't turn off my cellphone, my cell allows me to know what is happening. My phone? Are you crazy, I can't go a day without it," says Trudy.

  • Give in to your two guilty pleasures, daytime TV and reading

    Do: 60% Don't: 40%

"Watching TV is something that I do daily. If anything, when I'm on vacation, I get to watch more TV to relax myself," says Tashi.

  • Hit the mall, meet a friend for lunch and hang out with your posse afterwards

    Do: 65% Don't: 35%

Most of my friends are from work, I'm used to seeing them every time at work, so I don't really want to see them when I'm supposed to be on my vacation," says Shauna Kay.

  • Stay in bed all day

    Do: 75% Don't: 25%

"Yeah, I do that when I'm on vacation. That's the best part of being on a vacation because it's something I don't get to do much of when I'm at work," says Daniel.

  • Visit friends and family

    Do: 55% Don't: 45%

"My family is important to me, so I usually use this time to spend with them. I also go out of town to see those who I don't get to see often," says Ricardo.
