Portsmouth FC won their first title in many years after a 5-4 sudden-death penalty shoot-out victory over Greater Portmore in the Genus Pharmacy-sponsored Portmore Division Two mid-season final at the Greater Portmore playing field, on Sunday.

The teams played out a 0-0 scoreline after regulation and extra time forcing the game into the dreaded penalty kicks.

Scorers for Portsmouth were Hosea Renton, Kevin Williams, Dwayne Brown, Richard Renton and Xavior Gayle, while, Exol Dillon, Randy Benjamin, Andre Bernal and Oneil Clarke netted for Greater Portmore.

Six matches are scheduled in tomorrow's seventh round of the WIHCON-sponsored Portmore Division Two Football League.

An interesting match-up looms at the Racing playing field as two teams from the Braeton Division, Braeton United (nine) and Newtown Braeton (seven), lock horns in a 3:30 p.m. feature match. In the opening game at the venue, Daytona take on the home team, Racing United, at 1:30 p.m.

In other games, it's Caymanas Gardens vs Portmore Pines at 1:30 p.m., Portmouth vs Caymanas Gardens Site D at 3:30 p.m. (both games at Portsmouth); Christian Pen vs Hellshire United at 1:30 p.m., Watson Grove vs Greater Portmore at 3:30 p.m. (both games at Watson Grove).

The Alpart/Essex Valley Schools' netball rally ended in triumph for New Forest Primary and Junior High and Nain Primary and Junior High in the Under-12 and Under-15 categories, respectively.

The competition took the form of a rally for 14 all-age and primary school teams in south St Elizabeth on Friday, January 25, at the Ray Gendron Recreation Centre in Nain, St Elizabeth.

New Forest defeated Austin in a tight finish, taking home the Alpart Trophy once again, while Nain took the trophy from New Forest in the Under-15 match.

Alpart has been sponsoring the Essex Valley Schools' Programme since 1970 and conducts competitions for football, cricket, netball and athletics in a programme that impacts more than 10,000 children across Essex Valley.

The Jamaica Public Service Company President's League netball competition will begin tomorrow at the Leila Robinson Courts. The opening ceremony is set for 1:00 p.m., followed by the rally.

The league is scheduled to begin on Sunday, February 17, with three rounds of matches.

This is the third year of the competition which encompasses teams from as far away as Hanover and Westmoreland.

Co-leaders, Eradication and Fort International, both won their 10th round matches in the Portmore/St. Catherine domino league last Sunday in contrasting fashion.

Eradication crushed Marlie-mount 300-227 in a home match at Gregory Park ,while Fort International clipped High Roller 300-292 in another home match at Passagefort.

The feature match in tomorrow's 11th round pits Fort International against second-placed Caribbean Classic at Caribbean Classic, Portmore Lane starting at 11:30 a.m.

Fort International are co-leaders in the standings with Eradication, both on 46 points from 10 matches, followed by Caribbean Classic with 42 points from 10 matches as well.

Eagle View and Right Stuff are jointly in third with 41 points, followed by Ackee Pod and Old Harbour United both on 38 points, one ahead of Village Link and defending champions Hurricane.

In other matches last Sunday, Caribbean Classic drubbed Correctional Service 300-256 at Prison Oval, Right Stuff beat Village Link 300-293 at Cedar Grove Road, Hurricane beat home team Ken's Wildflower 300-263, Eagle View thrashed JUTC 300-227 at Old Braeton, Old Harbour United beat Seamaster 300-280, Masterpiece defeated New Look 300-267, Ackee Pod stopped Prozz and Con 300-274 and ISCF beat Lime Tree 300-272 at Back Road.

As the Lasco Chess League continued at the RBTT Bank Head Office last Sunday, leaders Spartans blanked Old Harbour Chess Club 4-0 to maintain their place atop the standings on 25 points, half a point ahead of main rivals King Assassins.

The Assassins also flexed their muscles against less fancied Mayberry Mavericks, beating them 4-0. The result left the Assassins on 24.5 points, well within striking range of the leaders with six rounds to go.

In third place is Anti-Cougartism, who got past the Magnificent Matadors 3-1 to finish the round with 22.5 points. Six Kings, who defeated Caballos de Terrores, followed by Vikings in fifth, while Superior Girls, led by national women's champion WFM Deborah Richards, are in sixth place.

The league continues tomorrow at the RBTT head office with the eighth round of matches.

Defending champion Rowe's Strikers and Eastern All-Stars will seek the fourth and final semi-final spot in the Henkel-sponsored Federation Cup skittles competition tomorrow at Eastern, 111 Windward Road.

Potential champions on their best form both will meet in a big clash which could go either way. Both teams boast some of the best players in the country.
