DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Harbour View booked their place in the final of the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Western Union Jackie Bell KO competition following a 2-0 win over Super League team Duhaney Park at the Harbour View Mini Stadium last night.
Harbour View sped into the lead from a penalty in the sixth minute from Clifton Waugh. Duhaney Park's goalkeeper, Omar Williams, charged out to pull down Lovel Palmer in the area, forcing referee Winston Delahaye to point to the spot. A confident Waugh then stepped up to coolly beat Williams. Play was centred in Duhaney Park's half of the pitch as Harbour View wrestled to maintain control. Midway into the half, Donald Stewart led the charge for Harbour View but, despite attempting several shots, they failed to register any additional goals. Duhaney Park returned in the second half with a vengeance and within the first five minutes attempted to score from a free kick taken by keeper Williams. However, that was blocked by Harbour View's goalkeeper Dwayne Miller. The ball rolled out of Miller's clutches and into the path of Horace Wilson but was again saved by the goalkeeper.
Second goal
Harbour View were not daunted and within 15 minutes they scored their second goal. Kavin Bryan gained possession of the ball in the 18-yard area and squared the ball across the goal line. It was tapped into the side of the goal by Kemar Petrekin in the 65th minute. Utah Blade, coach of Duhaney Park, felt his team performed well despite going up against what he considered a quality team. "It was a good run. Our defence line was a bit out of place, hence the two goals scored against us. We got chances to put the game away but that never happened," Blade said.Harbour View coach Lenworth Hyde said his team's victory was a good one as Duhaney Park kept them working throughout the 90 minutes. "It is good to see that we have once again reached the final and are able to defend our title," Hyde said. The final will be held on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. at the same venue.
