NOTE-WORTHY: Spewing rubbish
published: Tuesday | February 19, 2008

Spewing rubbish

Democracy is a wonderful thing. It gives everyone the right to make a total ass of him or herself within the law. Case in point, Dawn Ritch. I have no objections to her use of a pen, unfortunately even she has a readership who listen and are gullible enough to swallow the rubbish she spews hook, line and sinker.

Racist assessment

I am writing to raise objection to the article posted by Dawn Ritch 'Obama, the impostor; Hillary, the victim'. I thought it was a lazy, racist and assumptive assessment. Just because Dawn Ritch is black herself doesn't excuse her racial slurs and disdainful remarks about Senator Barack Obama.

Political cover-up?

Referring to the article in the Friday Gleaner 'No breach committed' - Tufton says no law was broken by those who acquired gov't land'. If land can be bought without the approval of the Land Divestment Committee, which was established to ensure transparency, then what purpose does it serve? What type of transparency will it ensure? In essence, it serves no real purpose, dismantle the commitee. Or then again, is it because members of both sides of the House are involved, so nothing will come of it? Another political cover-up?

Street vendors

The Government of Jamaica needs to enforce efforts of municipalities to place vendors in designated areas, especially where tourism is the main source of revenue. As a Jamaican living abroad, I have heard tourists who visited our island make negative comments about huts on the side of the road and shacks with vendors selling this and that in the middle of the resort areas.

We need to have a structured system where all vendors are assigned to designated areas as in Bermuda, where one does not see this kind of image.
