St Catherine man shot dead, child injured
published: Tuesday | February 19, 2008

Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

SPANISH TOWN, St Catherine:

A St Catherine community is in mourning following the murder of a 43-year-old man and the injury of his one-year-old child by gunmen on Saturday morning. Dead is Dwight Dunkley of School Road, Succaba Gardens in Old Harbour, St Catherine.

According to the Old Harbour police, at about five o'clock Saturday morning, Dunkley was at his home with his common-law wife and their one-year-old child when persons kicked off his door, entered the house and fired several shots, killing the self-employed man and injuring the child.

The Old Harbour police told The Gleaner that the motive for Dunkley's death is gang-related.

Meanwhile, the St Catherine South Homicide team is carrying out further investigations into the matter.

When the area was visited by the news team, several persons were seen, many of whom expressed shock as to why anyone would want to harm a child.
