OAS condemns latest mass killings in Guyana
published: Friday | February 22, 2008

RAMDIN

WASHINGTON (CMC):

The Organisation of American States has condemned "in the strongest terms" the latest mass killings in Guyana.

In a statement issued here Wednesday, Assistant Secretary General Albert Ramdin condemned what he called "these barbarous acts which violate the dignity of life and common decency, and undermine confidence in the rule of law".

A group of armed men went on a killing rampage Sunday night, killing 13 people in the mining town of Bartica, some 130 kilometres from the capital, Georgetown.

Ramdin also said that the OAS had conveyed condolences to the victims' families, and expressed solidarity with the people and Government of Guyana.
