NOTE-WORTHY: Police intimidation
published: Wednesday | February 27, 2008

Police intimidation

Having been a visitor over many years, I was recently disturbed by seeing several improvements such as customs at MoBay airport and the new road project overshadowed by having friends in two rental cars pulled over in a speed trap and charged US$60 for not being "inconvenienced with a ticket". I dislike the constant hassle of being set upon to buy everything, legal or not, but intimidation by the police should not be a part of a vacation experience.

Safety policy

Recently, I was on official duties at a popular construction site in Hanover. I observed that most of the workers were not wearing personal protective equipment as required. Women were seen dressed in knickers, halter-back and belly-skin blouses exposing all parts of their bodies, while carrying out mason work and other tasks. The Government must take the necessary steps to ensure that the draft Occupational Health and Safety policy be enacted. Failure to do so will, over time, cost the country dearly.

Sarcasm

The Letter of the Day response by Primrose A. to that written by Nadia Jones is startling. I agree with all Primrose A. said, but doesn't she recognise sarcasm when she hears or sees it? Did she really believe that Ms Jones was really advocating arming teachers as she described in her letter? I am having second thoughts about supporting Primrose A.'s independent school. God help the kids.

Accident victim

I was an early bystander at the scene of a motor vehicle accident which occurred on Sir Florizel Glasspole Boulevard on the February 19. A fire unit arrived quickly on the scene.

Unfortunately, the firefighters were unable to extricate the victim who was pinned in the car due to lack of equipment. Shortly after, two other fire units arrived but they, too, did not fare any better as their cutting equipment malfunctioned.

What has happened to those fancy trucks and equipment that were showcased at Up Park Camp some time last year?
