King's Gate Prep

Finding some 'yet-to-be-discovered' cures are high on Jeremy Parchment's agenda for the future. The outstanding 10-year-old is a sixth-grader at King's Gate Preparatory School who is determined to work in the field of medicine.

"I would like to become a medical doctor," he said. "People get sick all the time and I want to help them get better, and also find some cures that are not found as yet," he said. He added that he knew the task ahead would demand hard work, but this would not deter him from his dream. If the youngster continues to ace his English, mathematics and science examinations, then we will certainly be seeing him at the doctor's office or in the research laboratory.

"I am thinking big right now," says 11-year-old David Gilzene. The fifth grade King's Gate Prep student said he was confident that he would be able to balance a legal and medical career in the future. "My favourite subjects are science and social studies. I like learning about the different countries and people. In the future, I want to become a lawyer and a doctor. It will be hard work ... but I'm, thinking big right now."

Brithney Clarke is 10 years old. She loves mathematics and language arts. There was a time when she had a pet but it died. As a result, she is bent on becoming a veterinarian. Brithney is a smart, upcoming pet saviour in the making.

It is not very often that one meets a nine-year-old who is somewhat obsessed with geometry and algebra. So, meet Neko Ewart, fourth-grade student at the institution.

Loves geometry, algebra

"My favourite subjects are mathematics, social studies, science and English. I really love geometry and algebra. I'm very good at them. I got 97 per cent on math test a lot of times," he said. The chap continued that he wanted to be a scientist and "discover things".

Continuing on the note of science-based career ambitions, please meet Russell James, another fourth-grader. The self-proclaimed science whiz says he likes the subject because one gets to do "fun things like experiments" and "learn about the sense organs". The youngster wants to be a scientist or an engineer.

You will probably meet Chris Ann Bryan in the delivery room in a few years from now. She wants to be an obstetrician. She says she is the baby among her siblings. She likes the idea of helping people.

Ashley Boyne must have not felt like wearing her halo when we visited her school, but the little angel will probably put it back up a couple years from now when she steps into a classroom, not as a student, but as a teacher.

The eight-year-old likes the idea of teaching and plans on doing just that. Although mathematics is her favourite subject, she is not necessarily planning on teaching that subject. Just being in the classroom imparting knowledge regardless of the subject area, would be rewarding.

Seven-year-old Donae Smiles plans on being a nurse or doctor, and judging from her enthusiasm, her office would be a pleasant place to be. Little Ms Smiles ranks among the top students in her grade-two class at King's Gate Prep.

Grade-two student Shade Barrett takes art to heart. Not only is it one of her favourite subjects, along with phonics and mathematics, but she plans on being an art teacher. "It's a lot of fun and I like it, so that is why I want to teach it," she said.
