Blues was in the air at the United States Embassy's annual African-American History Month concert last Friday.
The free concert was this year dubbed 'Blues on the Green', featuring headline American blues artiste, Nora Jean Bruso.
Sprawled on the extensive lawns of Hope Gardens in Kingston, guests got their fill of snacks and drinks provided by the concert's sponsors.
All the while the lively host Fae Ellington took them through the programme with performances from Bruso, To-Isis, Pam Hall and Michael Harris, who were all backed by The Maurice Gordon Group. The Fab 5 aggregation was the only other band on the show and their aim was to get the crowd dancing. While few obliged, host Fae Ellington showed she certainly could with her ska moves. Pam Hall and newcomer Michael Harris stood out.
Bruso, who closed the show, declared with her rich Southern accent and no-nonsense lyrics, "If you don't like the blues you got no reason being here." She proceeded to belt out mostly originals, staying true to the blues.
The guests' time was definitely well spent.
