One busy weekend whirl
published: Friday | March 7, 2008

Chester Francis-Jackson, Contributor

George Fatta and Louise Valle live it up for the camera at a dinner he gave in her honour at his residence.

Luvs, last weekend it was all about Port Antonio where the fabulous multimillion-dollar yacht The Capri, and its owner, the fabulously wealthy billionaire Michael Lee Chin, were in town for a little R and R.

And why not? After all, he is still listed as one of Canada's richest men despite dropping down the Forbes Magazine's list of wealthy folks.

Lee Chin is keeping good company, as the uber-rich club has seen all kinds of movement in the latest instalment of the world's richest people. After over a decade at the top of the moneyed class, Bill Gates has seen his crown slip away and now claimed by the indefatigable Warren Buffet, who is now king of the heap, with Mexican tycoon Carlos Slim coming in second, thus relegating Gates to third.

And still speaking of one of Canada's finest, the indomitable Louise Valle, the fab wife of former Canadian High Commissioner Claudio Valle, just ended her unofficial 'official' visit here, my dears!

Talk about rolling out the red carpet! Well, it was like that and then some, as we are talking some fabulous dinner parties, brunches, cocktails and, not to mention, fabulous company.

Feted and fed

Looking something fab, Canada's former first lady flew in and guested with Joe and Bernadette Matalon, and in between dined at a brunch in her honour at the home of the illustrious Jennifer Lim that also saw Prime Minister Bruce Golding in attendance.

Plus, noted lawyer George Fatta threw a fab and intimate dinner party at his St Andrew residence. There were cocktails with Kenny Benjamin; a visit to the National Gallery and, of course, a fab outing to the north coast before returning to Canada at the start of this week.

Also returning to her Long Island home at the start of the week is the charming Frances Allison, whose whirlwind visit to the island also saw her soaking up some sea and sun on the island's north coast, before fulfilling a few social engagements in the nation's capital and Linstead/Bog Walk, before taking her leave of these shores with promises to return in mid-November.

PNP made merry

And, last weekend was one busy weekend with the social register of engagements stacked beyond capacity. The premier event was the media appreciation reception and party hosted under the auspices of former prime minister and Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller at the tres fab Jack's Hills residence of Senator Mark Golding and wife Sandra.

Pumpkins, it was one fine outing as indeed the People's National Party (PNP) that has been generating some really negative press recently was in no mood to roll over and play dead to facilitate their detractors and/or opponents. So, this here was one fine outing.

My dears, the PNP president was the belle of the ball as she and a host of her officers, MPs, councillors, contributors and backers got together with members of the media fraternity to break bread and make merry.

My dears, PNP shooting star Peter Bunting was out, as was MP Maxine Henry-Wilson and her daughter Seya Henry-Wilson. Also spotted were Bobby Pickersgill, A.J. Nicholson, O.D. Ramtalie, Dr Wykeham McNeill, Lisa Hanna and Senator Sandrea Falconer - all sharing in the latest dance moves and grooves, as they partied with their guests and it made for a happy outing. Not to mention a scrumptious fare and premium libations - y'all know that this one was a party, and not a mere get-together!

Also in attendance were Steve Ashley, Mr and Mrs Dwight Moore, the fabulous Ingrid Green, Patrick Bailey, and Sadie McBean.

And speaking of leading Jamaican women, very special birthday wishes to Lady Bustamante, who celebrates her special day tomorrow. Many happy returns, Lady B.
