Orane
If you've ever met Marguerite Orane, then it wouldn't surprise you that she would have a book entitled, Free and Laughing.
And you would equally not be surprised that the promotion of such a book would not be a run-of-the-mill affair as it decidedly was not at Susie's Bakery in Southdale Plaza, last Saturday.
Flautist Simone Kenny got things going, providing soothing sounds to complement a cool evening, made so from afternoon showers. She would return to do other sets between readings from Orane, as well as interpretative dance from Orane's sister, Carol.
Paul and Cynthia Hanworth of 1876 Wines poured fountains of the drink of the gods for the wine aficionados who kept popping back for another sip. All the while, guests were feasting on Susie's outstanding pastry, shrimp and other delights.
Free and Laughing can be considered a self-help/motivational/inspirational book, with its anecdotes for living life in the fashion stated, "free and laughing". Orane said she got the idea from an email sent by her mother who has the same attitude, at the age of 90! The book tells of everyday experiences in Orane's life, which she then expounds on giving lessons that can be learnt from them.
Guests included Lorna Golding, Melody Cammock-Gayle and mom, Monica, Sylvia Collister, Nicole Hoo-Fatt, Jeannette Lewis, Joni Wedderburn, Marilyn Bennett, Suzie Benjamin, Dr Kim Brown and husband, Brent Ciurlino, and Yulit Gordon.
