Issue: Crotch-grabbing and witch-hunts
published: Saturday | March 8, 2008

The article published in The Gleaner of March 4 under the heading 'Crotch-grabbing a crime in Italy' is a matter of interest.

Though the act of crotch-grabbing is something I detest, I do not think it is worth Jamaica's while to take advice in that regard from Italy. If, however, we ever think of banning crotch-grabbing, then we should at the same time think of banning the display of the female anatomy, which is frequently being broadcast by the way some females choose to dress while on our streets and on television and in newspaper advertisements.

Also think of banning mad/homeless naked persons who roam our streets, and who are very intimidating. While you are it, add the banning of pornographic DVDs (for sale) which are lined up on our streets in full view of our very young children. I could add lots more, but time will not permit.

Finally, crotch-grabbing may become offensive if it is being done as a gesture to either a male or female who does not entertain the act. May I add that some will, no doubt, be entertained by the gesture.

I am a Jamaican living abroad, who reads The Gleaner every morning and I am appalled at the time and money that the present Government is wasting on probes and investigations of the last administration.

It would serve them and the country better if they would govern to make the lives of the citizens better, instead of this witch-hunt they are on to see how many opposition members they can disgrace.

At the end of the day, no one wins. They must not forget that a time of reckoning will also come for them. My advice to them is: Get on with the future of our beloved country and stop living the past.
