Organisers seek $10m for charity
published: Saturday | March 8, 2008

The 10th staging of the Pan Caribbean Sigma Run will take place tomorrow with an additional gold sponsor, D&G Malta, who have increased their support to the tune of $400,000.

Dave DaCosta, brand manager for D&G Malta, stated that their sponsorship is ideal because the 'Run' promotes healthy living, which is one of the tenets that the product exemplifies.

"The Pan Caribbean Sigma Run has over the years encouraged a healthy lifestyle and has been directed towards people who pursue such values. Our new variants malta refresh and malta velvet fall into that same category. These beverages are perfect for those who are active and want to lead healthy, more wholesome lifestyles," said DaCosta.

In addition, as part of the brand's partnership with the Sigma Pan Caribbean Run, participants and the general public will be entertained with different acts from VP Records, who will be incorporated into different entertainment segments.

According to Melissa Crooks, manager, marketing and communications at PanCaribbean, people who do not wish to participate in the Run can make monetary contributions that will go directly to the charity.

Renal care donation

Crooks indicated that 85 teams have so far been confirmed and a total of 7,800 people have already registered. The goal is to raise $10 million, which will go directly towards patient care at the renal units of the University Hospital of the West Indies, Cornwall Regional Hospital and the Kingston Public Hospital.

"Corporate Jamaica have come out in full support of the event and we look forward to everyone coming out and supporting us," she said.

Accordingly, traffic flow will be temporarily interrupted to facilitate the staging of the event that is scheduled to begin at 6:00 a.m. in front of the Pan Caribbean building on Knutsford Boulevard. It will continue on to Trafalgar Road and onto Waterloo Road, then West Kings House Road and on to Constant Spring Road. From Constant Spring Road the route bends into Suthermere Road, then Hope Road, on to Winchester Avenue, Ruthven Road, Half-Way Tree Road and on to Oxford Road, where it culminates at Emancipation Park with a programme of events to include the customary awards and entertainment.
