The 2008-2009 Budget Estimates are due to be tabled in the House of Represen-tatives tomorrow and Jamaicans were yesterday asked what their expectations for the budget were.

Ainsley James - security guard/tiler

I have a reasonable expectation; my expectation is not too high. The day we start producing is the day when we can have hope and a higher expectation. I don't want to see a price increase in utility bills, - let us not go there. We are going to have big problems if jobs are not created.

Lorna Thompson - businesswoman

We have to hope for the best right now. Things are really hard so I am not expecting anything great. We are going to see a hike in taxes.

Melbourne DaCosta

I am hoping that what was promised to us (in the manifesto of the governing Jamaica Labour Party) will be delivered. We should see a balance in the Budget.

Alford Jones - mason/painter

Is six months now mi no work. A hope seh di Budget will put dollars in mi pocket 'cause wi a suffer. Jamaica has di most money in di worl' an wi a suffer di most. Mi caan even trim mi hair.

Shannon Earle - police youth club member

It naa go be any good. Debts have to be paid, so I know they gonna increase one 'ting or another. The Government needs to focus more on poor communities and people who don't have it so they can buy food an' pay bills. It no matter how dem spend di money, jus' mek sure di people who no have it get dem share. They need to think of betta wage for people who do jobs such as clean di street and collect garbage.

Camille Riley - assistant manager at grocery shop/restaurant

Prices will be so high, I am scared to hear the budget. If I have money now I would do everything before the Budget. Look out for everything to raise.
