Simoes confident in Reggae Boyz
published: Wednesday | March 26, 2008

Keisha Hill, Staff Reporter

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR René Simoes is confident Jamaica will triumph over Trinidad and Tobago at 'The Office' tonight.

Simoes said after training on Monday night that the players had responded well and were prepared for the much-anticipated encounter.

According to Simoes, the training camp included three fundamental principles which all the players were expected to strategically implement in the game plan today.

"We had three aims for the camp. The first is transition, where the players will collect the ball and transfer quickly from the defence to attack. The players also cannot take long to make the decision to transfer," Simoes said.

"The second point is that if they lose the ball, then they are responsible to follow the ball and ensure it is passed to the right available person. The third one is that the player must keep the ball and not give it away."

With Jamaica having the majority of its heavyweights for tonight's game, Simoes indicated he was expecting good chemistry between the overseas-based players and the locals.

"Everybody is expecting much from them and hopefully they will perform under the pressure," he said.

Trinidad and Tobago's senior footballers arrived in Jamaica on Monday. Head coach Francisco Maturana and captain Aurtis Whitley led the team in training sessions at Tivoli Gardens and at the match venue last night.
