NOTE-WORTHY: Investment
published: Tuesday | April 1, 2008

Investment

Thanks to Bryan Miller, JIS writer, and the Gleaner for publishing the article "Investment fund helps build Jamaica" on Saturday, March 29. Please continue to publish positive topics like this one. It's very important for people to know that they are the ones who build their community and not the government. We need to have more government programmes islandwide structured toward development of the communities similar to JSIF. Thank you JSIF for teaching and preparing whole communities for the future.

Church and gunmen

I just read the article 'Church Connecting with Gunmen', part 2 in The Gleaner of Saturday, March 29. 2008. I want to honour and show my regards to Pastor Norman Lewin for the work he is doing. If the church does not reach out to these unfortunate men, who will?

Pastor Lewin, may your tribe increase.

Speed limit

I visited the island a couple of weeks ago, and was not comfortable with the speed limit posted there. On my way to visit my sick mother in the country, I was stopped three times by the police for speeding. This very ridiculous speed travelling 50kmh going out of town, 50kmh is like driving 35mph in a very busy neighbourhood, something has be done. I hope the transport authority looks into this or the relevant persons in charge of traffic control. I am not suggesting that one should drive above the speed limit posted, but come on, 50kmh is just below international standard.

Gay market

So some of our hotels are targeting "the lucrative gay and lesbian market"! Let them go ahead with the realisation that they cannot change the attitude of Jamaicans to what they regard as aberrant behaviour. We simply cannot afford to let outsiders compel us to accept their lifestyle. Attempts to foist this on the Jamaican people will meet with resistance. Let these tourists go to the countries where their lifestyle is accepted. They will be more comfortable there. Of course, it is wrong to discriminate or use violence against any group, but this may not produce acceptance. If this trend continues what is to prevent paedophiles and pornographers advocating their rights.
