Tuesday talk - Hottest Topics on the Cocktail Circuit
published: Tuesday | April 1, 2008

Large and in charge

1. Technically speaking, wife number two is in charge. But recently the master has been finding solace in the arms of wife number one. As he explained to a buddy, "you never know what you have until you lose it". Seems wife number one was prepared to accept him and ignore all his antics, including constant attention to the woman in the shadows. The master has made a few enemies and anonymous notes have recently been finding their way into wife number one's mailbox. Wife number two has read him the riot act, so the master has a big decision to make. We are listening.

Deal with the devil

2. The embattled businessman thought he was getting a sweet deal when the high-and-mighty one decided to buy him out. However, he was heard saying to someone that he now understands what it feels like to make a deal with the devil. High-level meetings are convened regularly to try and squeeze even more out of the already one-sided deal. Talk about making blood out of stone.

Beware - dinner guests

3. In her hometown, there are loud whispers about the brutal bite she delivered to her lover. According to reports reaching us, she discovered that her lady was cheating. Word has it that, during an intimate session, she scolded the errant one and bit her most viciously to register her displeasure. Local doctors took one look at the 'area' and agreed that the police ought to be brought into the picture. However, rather than create a public brouhaha, the bitten one was whisked overseas for treatment. This story is relevant to us on the rock for the biter has been invited to dinner - guests you have been warned.

A king in his palace

4. The price of real estate on the rock shows no sign of slowing down despite what is happening in North America. One far-seeing person made the ultimate slam dunk last year when he bought a highly desirable property for US$1.5 million. Happily ensconced in his mansion, he scoffed at recent offers to double what he paid. The question some are asking is whether he won the lottery or inherited some legacy, for how else could someone who was known to be broke not so long ago make such a purchase?

A pile of bills

5. If you think taxes are the only bills the medic owes, think again. Several persons who provided services for the wedding are still waiting to collect. And since the marriage has collapsed, many doubt whether these debts will ever be honoured. Bill collectors will soon be knocking at some doors.
