Defending champions Jamalco registered their second straight win in this year's Jamaica Netball Association (JNA)/Berger Paints Super League competition, by thrashing promoted side Molynes United 'A' 57-21 on Saturday at the Leila Robinson Courts.
Former national goal shooter, Elaine Davis, led the way for Jamalco with 38 goals from 45 attempts and received solid support from Margrett Lawrence, who sunk a perfect 11 goals from 11 tries.
Teenage sensation Christina Solmon, who as a 16-year-old was the youngest national rep at the World Netball Championships in New Zealand last November, was the top shooter for Molynes United 'A' with 19 goals from 21 attempts.
Second consecutive victory
In another games, Windalco recorded their second consecutive victory by beating Tivoli Gardens 'B' 42-20.
Waulgrovians 'A' recorded their third win of the season by beating Jetsetters 'A' 50-40. National representative Simone Forbes, with 24 from 27, and Oberon Pitterson with 14 goals from 17 tries, were the leading scorers for Waulgrovians 'A'. Annette Miller, with 29 goals from 42 attempts, and Sophia Grant, 11 from 22, scored the goals for Jetsetters.
Windalco dominated the match from the opening whistle as they held a nine-point lead at half-time (17-8). The Winston Nevers-coached Windalco then increased tempo in the third period, with goal shooter Diana Millwood scoring eight straight goals, which saw them outscoring their opponents 10-7 for a 27-15 lead at the end of the third period.
Millwood finish the game with 21 goals from 33 attempts and received solid support from Viola Francis, 16 goals from 20 attempts, as the green and yellow-clad Windalco extended their advantage to romp to an easy victory.
"I am not overall pleased with the performance of my team because I think we played in patches," said Nevers, who is also the coach of Jamalco.
"There are a number of things that I see we need to work from this game especially in our defensive area," Nevers explained.
Poor shooting
Sylvester Campbell, coach of Tivoli Gardens 'B' said: "I think poor shooting was our biggest problem because the girls weren't settled in their rhythm at no time in the game.
"We will just have to try to win our remaining matches because our main aim is to make it into the quarter-finals of the competition," Campbell explained.
