Bikers needed safety helmets!
published: Wednesday | April 2, 2008

The Editor Sir:

Congratulations on your Lifestyle feature (April 1) on the Crazy Bikerz Stunt Crew. I commend especially the photography of Peta-Gaye Clachar. One thing which bothers me, however, is the declaration that this group of bikers "has separated itself from many others by enforcing a strict rule of safety first".

It is, therefore, puzzling to understand why most of the riders highlighted in the feature were not wearing safety helmets. In one picture, four riders were on one bike for a particular stunt and none, as far as we could see, wore a helmet. The situation was similar in most of the other pictures.

Obey the safety-first rule

While I commend the young bikers for their innovative spirit, I would ask them to obey the safety-first rule at all times, not only for self-preservation, but as an example to other bike riders who are already enough of a menace to themselves and others on our roads.

While we're at it, it would be good if in the current spirit of 'no-tolerance', the police could keep a more vigilant eye on the lack of safety consciousness exhibited by motorcyclists on our roads.

I am, etc.,

BARBARA GLOUDON
