Sports Minister Olivia 'Babsy' Grange has congratulated the champion Jamaica Under-15 team for its recent success in lifting the regional title.

Through a press release, the minister also paid tribute to the country's Blind Cricket representatives for also winning the West Indies competition.

Referring to the Under-15s, the minister said: "The Ministry of Sports notes that the future of the country's cricket is on solid foundation, following the historic performance by the Jamaica Under-15 team in the recently concluded Clico West Indies tournament.

phenomenal achievement

"Going through the tournament unbeaten is a phenomenal achievement and augurs well for the future, whilst underlying and underscoring the talent and good development programme we have locally.

"Congratulations are in order for the management and coaches and, in particular, the youngsters who gave magnificent performances throughout the competition."

She added: "Congratulations are also in order for the Jamaica Blind Cricket team, for going through the West Indies tournament unbeaten.

rained out

"Although having to share the title with Trinidad and Tobago, the Jamaicans, the defending champions, were possibly denied victory, as rain ruled the final a no-contest.

"I understand that the Jamaicans gave wonderful team performances and Denold Shim is to be singled out for hitting two centuries in the tournament. To borrow a phrase from the Jamaica Society for the Blind, 'it is better to be blind and have vision, than be able to see but lack vision'.

"Congratulations guys."
