Important point for St Georges

"If you want to know how valuable a draw is, you have to lose a game," said Donovan Duckie, coach of St Georges following his team's 1-1 draw with home team Waterhouse in Cash Plus Premier League (CPPL) action at the Waterhouse House Mini Stadium on Sunday.

St George's dominated the first half but came under intense pressure in the second half. The Portland-based team, however, took the lead in the 49th minute with a goal from Denroy Dennis.

Duckie said his team played well in the first half.

"Waterhouse committed a lot of players forward. We tried to soak up their pressure and catch them on the counter-attack," Duckie said.

"In the second half we started out positively. We started passing the ball around and eventually found some space around their midfield and got our goal," he said.

Waterhouse created numerous opportunities throughout the game but had to rely on a Jonathan Williams injury time goal to share the points.

Despite the result, Waterhouse remained in fifth place in the league with 44 points.

"It was a very disappointing game. I think we should have come away with the three points," said Wayne Fairclough, coach of Waterhouse.

He stated that his team's transition between the midfield and the forwards was not working as smoothly as he would have liked."We have been creating the chances but have failed to capitalise on the opportunities. We will just have to continue working hard and try to turn around our performance and score some goals," he said.

Fairclough also indicated that morale has been low since key players, Kevin Lamey and Irvino English, left the team to go overseas.

"We have been talking to the players and are trying to help them to move on. Once we begin scoring again it will help the moral of the team and help us to be more competitive," he concluded.
