National players fined in Super League cricket
published: Tuesday | April 8, 2008

Carlton Baugh ... fined 45 per cent of his match fee.

National players Carlton Baugh and Nikita Miller, both representing Melbourne Kangaroos, were fined a percentage of their match fees in last weekend's round of the Jamaica Super League.

The two were playing at home - Courtney Walsh Drive - against Trelawny Buccaneers. Baugh was fined 45 per cent of his match fee for showing dissent while Miller had 35 per cent of his fee taken away for excessive time wasting.

Based on the Pro League payment system, Baugh who collects US$200 (approximately J$14,000) per match, is set to lose US$90 (J$6,300) while Miller whose match fee is US$175 (approximately J$12,250) will have US$61.25 (J$4,287.50) subtracted.

Meanwhile, in last weekend's rain-affected third round matches, St Catherine Saints and St Elizabeth Shakes picked up first innings points against Jamaica Defence Force (JDF Brigades) and Westmoreland Wizards, respectively. The other two matches, Manchester Lions against Kingston Tigers and Melbourne Kangaroos against Trelawny Buccaneers, ended in no-results.

At Alpart - St Elizabeth Shakes took first innings points from Westmoreland Wizards.

Dismissed for 115

The Wizards were dismissed for 115 with off-spinner Wayne Simpson and Alton Beckford sharing six wickets. Beckford, a national player, took three for 10 while Simpson picked up three for 28.

In reply, the Shakes declared their innings on 205 for eight. Brenton Parchment, who played a single Test for West Indies, top-scored with 36 against Jerome Williams five for 106.

Westmoreland Wizards were 96 for four, batting a second time when bad light stopped play. Simpson took three for 32.

At Chedwin Park: St Catherine Saints also secured first innings points over JDF.

Replying to the Saints' 270, JDF Brigades were blown away for 121. Avroy Harris top-scored with 44 against Bevon Brown six for 30.

Forced to follow-on, the Brigades reached 149 for four. Mel Wint hit 43 against Andre Russell three for 33.

At Melbourne Oval: Miller had a career-best bowling performance of eight for 71 but the Kangaroos had to settle for a no result in their rain-hit match.

The Buccaneers, who resumed Sunday's final day on 138 for two, carried on to 338 all out - thanks to Lorenzo Ingram, 89, and former West Indies and Barbados player Floyd Reifer, 75, who added 156 for the third wicket.

Kurt Wilkinson, Barbados' opening batsman, contributed 79 on the opening day.

At Kirkvine: Runako Morton scored 67 in Manchester Lions' 153 for five. Kingston Tigers were 97 for four when bad light stopped play.
