Battle begins today for Grace Shield Premier League title
published: Tuesday | April 8, 2008

St Catherine High will be gunning for revenge when they tackle defending champions Eltham High in the three-day final of the Grace Shield Premier League, starting today at Chedwin Park.

Stanford Hudson, coach of St Catherine team, confirmed that his boys are confident they will do well and will be looking to score a rare win to avenge the many defeats they have suffered at the hands of their neighbours."They (Eltham) have been in our skin for some time now and we have to change that this time around," Hudson said.

"We have the players with the talent that can do the job," he said.

Highest individual score

National Under-15 player Amajah Morris, Nicholas Brown, schoolboy cricket record holder for the highest individual score - 337 against Tarrant in 2006, Coi Thompson, a former national Under-15 player, Ricardo Williams, Aaron Johnson, who is coming off a century against Innswood in the semi-final, along with the team's top bowler Shawn-Lee Earl are the players St Catherine will be looking to in today's semi-final.

"We will look towards those players to lead from in front," concluded Hudson.

Eltham, who are chasing their fourth straight title, are also raring to go. "If the team plays to the best of their potential, we should come out victorious," said coach Oral Simpson.

Frederick Hermit, Joseph Dennie, twin brothers Shawne and Shawn Harris will lead Eltham's batting while Romeo Duncan, Hermit, Sanjay Watson and Romeo Parker are the top bowlers.
