Of crabfest and Tudor gatherings

Dovecakes, it seems that all is not well within the walls of one of the leading public sector boardrooms these days, as word is spreading about the land transaction that has seen one director going into retirement, and some members of the board calling for the head of its chairman.

The prime minister, they say, is none too happy with the reports reaching him, as it seems that prime Crown lands were divested in less than transparent circumstances, and not only is he prepared to get to the bottom of the matter, some say he is willing to sack those involved if any hanky-panky is discovered. This position has been earning him rave reviews for his stance.

Keep watching this space as there is definitely more to come.

Busha's crabfest

Then, my dears, the invitations for Savanna-la-Mar's most anticipated outing are out, as the annual Busha Clarke's fundraising crabfest, at his fabulous beach cottage in Westmoreland, have now hit the scene, promising a bigger and better festival.

Dears, hosted each year to raise funds for Rotary charities, last year's festival was a smashing success, with guests coming in from all over the world to experience the unique event that started as a friendly outing for immediate friends and family. It later grew into a mammoth affair and was eventually transformed into a vehicle to raise funds.

The event has become the signature fund-raising affair for the community and a rip-roaring outing for the social élite, as last year's staging of the event saw the organisers serving up over 100 dozen crabs in every style and recipe imaginable, and then some. Guests simply could not get enough.

Hot spot

Well, luvs, for this year's staging of the anticipated event, Busha Clarke and his team are promising an even more interesting menu of crabs, and with demand for the invites growing, there will be a lot more than last year's stock of over 100 dozen crabs. Many guests are expected to be in attendance for this unique, but traditional, shindig on May 31. Already reservations are pouring into the neighbouring resorts to secure bookings, so more anon!

Ja grooming ny

Then the fabulous Karen Stephens, former hot model, beauty and grooming expert, who left our shores for the Big Apple years ago, is still in New York, contributing to the transformation of the city through her grooming skills. Her company - Grooming Plus - is all set to stage yet another of its interactive skin care and make-up workshop/clinics, geared towards the individuals who want to put their best face forward.

Scheduled for June 21 at the Brooklyn Marriott, under the theme 'You ... Only Better!' The workshop will be drawing on the skills of the beauty industry to break down and make accessible secrets based on individual selection, application and maintenance.

And with the latest in beauty and make-up technique, application and maintenance, the workshop promises to be a revolutionary first in style and content, so wait for it.

Rooting for Obama

And speaking of the United States, it seems that many Jamaican resident aliens in the continental United States of America are determined to do their bit to try and see presidential hopeful, Senator Barack Obama, elected to that nation's highest political office come November. They have been motivated by his message of change, with some likening him to the late great orator and visionary, Michael Manley.

Word is that these non-residents have formed their own caucuses, lobbying each other and others, as they seek to raise funds for the campaign in an effort to keep the candidate focused on the main issue, and not get sidetracked by the peripheral issues, on what they see as his way to the White House. In fact, the non-resident aliens are also very active here in Kingston, as they, too, shore up support for Senator Obama within the ranks of the West Indian immigrant community there!

Dears, it promises to make for one interesting Democratic national convention and presidential election later on, so stay tuned.

Tudor parties

And speaking of staying tuned, it seems that the show that has people here in Kingston glued to their television sets these days is the very hot and steaming series, The Tudors, aired on Sunday nights on cable's Showtime.

Pumpkins, there are 'Tudors' parties every Sunday night here in the city, as friends and families get together over drinks and dinner to watch the latest in the carryings-on of Henry VIII and his courtiers.

Luvs, call them closet royalists or what, but the riveting series is the only game in town on a Sunday, with many a devotee forgoing any or other social engagements just to join in.

And speaking of parties and celebrations, belated happy birthday greetings and salutations to the lovely Rosmond Brown, who celebrated her day on Wednesday of this week. Many happy returns, and then some!
