JCD SLEW, running at the fantastic odds of 250-1, scored a stunning upset in the closing restricted allowance race over 1200 metres at Caymanas Park on Wednesday, inflicting exit wounds to punters.

One of two winners for lightweight jockey Peter Bryan and trainer Gresford Smith, JCD SLEW found herself outpaced in the backstretch as MAGIC MOMENT (60-1) led at a fast clip from highly fancied OUTFITHER (7-2) and the 9-5 favourite RIO INFINITO, who took over on entering the straight.

But although looking the likely winner leaving the furlong pole, RIO INFINITO, under champion jockey Omar Walker, was overhauled in the final strides by JCD SLEW, who produced a tremendous late kick to win by a head.

PRIME MINISTER and highly fancied PRINCE TERRON both closed late to finish a length away in third and fourth places, respectively, in a maximum field of 16.

The winner, a 5-y-o dark bay mare by Footloose II out of the Joe Slew mare Classy Slew, is co-owned by Anthony Richards and Vaughn Smith, and bred by Henry W. Jaghai.

Earlier in the afternoon, ASK JOE, running at huge odds of 51-1 as well, got up in the nick of time to catch and beat the highly fancied JAGMAR by 1 1/4 lengths in the conditional $170,000 claiming race over 1700 metres contested by 13 starters.

Doubles

ASK JOE was ridden by Philip Clunis for second season trainer Delroy Spencer who had a second winner on the card in 2-5 favourite JAM ROCK, who romped the second race over 1820 metres by all of 21 1/2 lengths

'Greasy' Smith also saddled two winners in JCD SLEW and howling 2-5 favourite GOOD CITIZEN in the opening race for native and imported three-year-olds.

Second generation trainer Ryan Darby posted two winners as well in ITALQUEEN (3-1) and 2-5 favourite SATISFIER (went through leaving half mile) in the day's feature for the City of Kingston Centenary Cup (claiming $460,000-$410,000) over 1600 metres, scoring by 3 1/2 lengths with title-chasing jockey Dane Nelson aboard.

Nelson (Satisfier, Littleredcorvette), Peter Bryan (JCD Slew, Italqueen) and champion jockey Omar Walker (Xpress Card, Grace Marie) rode two winners each.

ITALQUEEN (3-1) produced a terrific late burst to catch the front-running PURE JUSTICE (12-1) close home, while the Lazel Khwalsingh-trained GRACE MARIE (2-1) got a dream run and the lead on the inside rails leaving the 600-metre pole and romped home by 3 1/2 lengths from the 99-1 outsider RED LION in the overnight allowance race at 1400 metres.

All of the above were upstaged by five-time champion Trevor Simpson who rode three winners in GOOD CITIZEN, JAM ROCK and evens favourite SUNSHINE OFMYLIFE for leading all-time trainer Philip Feanny in the 3-y-o maiden condition race over the straight.

Walker leads the standings with 38 winners, two ahead of Nelson and three ahead of Shane Ellis who failed to ride a winner on the card.
