Defence let us down - Fairclough

"DEFENSIVE ERRORS caused us to draw with August Town," said Wayne Fairclough, coach of Waterhouse, following his team's 1-1 draw against August Town in a keenly contested Premier League match at the Waterhouse Mini Stadium on Wednesday.

Despite good play in the first half, relegation-threatened August Town failed to capitalise on the numerous goalscoring opportunities. As a result of the draw, August Town increased their tally to 34 points but still remain in 11th place.

Still in top six

In the meantime, Waterhouse increased their total to 44 and occupy fifth position. Fortunately for them, they have managed to remain in the top six despite lacklustre performances in their last few matches.

Waterhouse took the lead, courtesy of Jonathan Williams in the 38th minute, as he executed a clear shot as a result of distracted goalkeeper Jeremy Miller.

Up until the 85th minute, it seemed Waterhouse had victory sewn up, but Nicholas Smith, in the 86th minute, gave August Town the equaliser, much to the disappointment of the home crowd.

Happy with TEAM'S resurgence

Dominique Spaudling, coach of August Town, said he was happy with the team's resurgence in the competition but was disappointed it had not stuck to the game plan.

"In the first half we played flat and not enough effort was put in to passing the ball around. But we will still be fighting to avoid relegation," Spaulding said.

"We hope to continue scoring and play better to win some games," he said.
