Experiment with rice
published: Wednesday | April 23, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

Do you love cassava? Well, I don't. It is threading and adds no excitement to the taste buds. Come to think of it how many variations are there when cooking cassava? Shrimp fried cassava, white cassava, seasoned cassava, cassava and peas, parboiled cassava. I am comparing cassava with rice and there seems to be no comparison, hence, we may end up with a pile of rotten cassava.

The Government should revive the agricultural sector not only in the area of cassava, but in all other areas, which may be yam, cocoa, dasheen, breadfruit, corn, etc. These ground provision are still being planted.

Rice production

This should be done on a larger scale so that the consumer and farmers may benefit.

Yes, we need rice, but investing in land in Guyana is not the best option as we may end up selling our rice grown in Guyana to America to pay of our debts. What we need to do is get a research team from the agri-culture sector and university to research and experiment on the likelihood of us producing rice on a large scale.

There are so many degree holders here, let's make use of these degrees and not be a nation of educated fools.

I am, etc.,
