THE EDITOR, Sir:With all the talk about casino legalisation in Jamaica, I decided to see how casino has helped Singapore. So I did a search on 'Singapore gaming'. (www.financialexpress.com/old/fe_full_story.php?content_id=134808)
Well, Singapore is set to introduce its first gambling den in 2009. Singapore's unemployment rate was 1.6 per cent in December 2007 (www.singstat.gov.sg).
I decided to look at Singapore, since we here in Jamaica were told by so many people what a good job the Government there was doing. It turns out they did their thing without the help of casinos.
Mr Golding is not there to do what a few people want him to do, but rather what the majority wants.
I would like to say to church leaders, you are targeting the wrong persons. Don't worry about the Government, talk to your congregations. It seems as if this Government respects petitions, the FINSAC'd group got a quick response with that method. Let us start acquiring signatures too. I would also like to hear about a mass rally. We need to send a message to the prime minister, a message that we are really not into it.
I am, etc.,
