West Indies advance to semis
published: Wednesday | April 30, 2008

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

THE WEST Indies surged into the league semi-finals of the CLICO International Under-15 Champion-ship with a crushing 10-wicket win over Kenya in the final round of the tournament at the Queen's Park Oval yesterday.

Set up by their bowling and formalised by their strong batting, the victory ensured the hosts' place in the final four against Malaysia in Grenada tomorrow.

Weak Kenyan attack

Kenya were bundled out for a meagre 86 off 23.3 overs after being sent in, and West Indies openers Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell then cruised to their target off just 14.1 overs.

Brathwaite sustained his superb form with an unbeaten 37, while Campbell also continued his fine run with an unbeaten 43.

The right-handed Brathwaite cracked four fours off 47 balls and Campbell stroked seven fours from just 38 deliveries, as the two plundered the weak Kenyan attack.

Brathwaite, who has scored prolifically in the tournament, has now tallied 404 runs, including a century in the opening match.

Asked to bat after losing the toss, Kenya were in trouble from early when Vinit Shikotra was bowled by Rico Depeiza for four with the score on 14.

Double figures

Emmanuel Bundi (16) and Karan Patel (13), the only batsmen to reach double figures, shared 35 for the second wicket - the largest of the innings - to restore some respectability to the innings.

The introduction of off-spinner Ramon Senior caused turmoil in the Kenyan innings. He accounted for Bundi and Patel and finished with four for 15 to send the tourists crashing.

Fast bowler Nico Henry supported with three for 23, while Derone Davis finished with two for two.

Senior copped the Player-of-the-Match award.
