Issue: I weep and worry for Jamaica
published: Saturday | May 3, 2008

I am a Jamaican citizen currently living and going to school in the United States. I have a major in political science and a minor in justice studies because I want to help uplift my country of Jamaica again. I cry, weep and worry about my family every day.

I want them to live in a happy and safe environment. I worry about the direction that Jamaica is headed in. It has become increasingly corrupt and violent.

There are so many brilliant young people in Jamaica that could fly to the moon and back; if only they were given the chance. The Government needs to step up and do its job.

It needs to put money into the schools, create more after-school facilities for the young people; especially the young boys.

They need to get the guns off the streets! Everyday another young man gets killed and another mother is left in mourning.

I pray for Jamaica, because I know the sunshine, I know the beauty of the people and I know the wonderful potential that God has bestowed upon the great island. I want the country of 'One Love' and 'One Heart' again. I WANT JAMAICA BACK!

May God be with Jamaica.
