NOTE-WORTHY: Team effort
published: Friday | May 16, 2008

Team effort

Crime is a wildfire and doesn't care who falls prey to it, nor does it care who will attempt to put out its flames. If the Jamaican people decided to be bad men and women (simply because they don't know better) do you think they care whether it was Derrick Smith or MacMillan who is the minister of national security?

They couldn't care less, but the situation is this: it has been eight short months since Derrick has held the position as minister which is not enough time to measure his achievement before ill-health intervened.

Jamaicans must pray that MacMillan succeed. Crime is everybody's business, one man can't fight crime; it is a team effort, and all of us are players in that team.

Military ethos

Colonel MacMillan has expertise in security. He has the years of experience and the training.

The military conduct itself with much more professionalism than the police force. With these two military men working together I can only see an improvement in the calibre of our police personnel.

Right now, this nation is in a crisis, where we all have to put our personal feelings aside and do the best for our country.

Not all of us have 'green cards', American visas, British status or any other ties to another country.

In essence, we have nowhere to run to.

I believe if our police officers were respected more, the crime situation would be different. Better compensation would help. So right now, let's all work together for the good of our little nation, Jamaica.

Road repairs

I am making a plea to the member of Parliament and councillor responsible for the Patrick Gardens area. Messeurs Smith and McLeod, on the issue of the road conditions in Patrick Gardens, we now drive on tracks. What used to be a five-minute drive has become a 30-minute obstacle course.

In a telephone conversation last November, Mr McLeod indicated that a road rehabilitation programme should have comeon-stream in April. That time has passed and nothing has been done! The time has come for the roads in Patrick Gardens to be fixed!
