THE EDITOR, Sir:Crime and violence is often associated with poverty, the gradual erosion of good morals, values and attitudes.
Thus, a man would utilise an 'alternative scheme' that will prevent him from working hard for a week to get a 'tidy' sum to go to 'Weddi-Weddi,' sport a new car or foot the grocery bill.
Thus, the get-rich mentality is embedded within our nation's youths. Their approach to life is further strengthened by the introduction of leaving life up to chance through the increasing number of betting and gaming 'productions'.
Casino gambling
With the implementation of casino gambling, it is anticipated that the failed objectives of those 'alternative schemes' will be realised. I don't want to appear to be a prophet of doom, but I can assure you that at the end of two years the Government will be seeking alternatives.
But anything that is not spiritually sanctioned will fail, whether now or seven years down the road. Might I suggest the one thing that we have been sidelining over the years; "this country needs divine intervention".
It is time that the Church and State be united and embrace the fact that Jamaica needs God. For only He is able to deliver and prosper us. A national repentance and prayer and fasting are needed.
I am, etc.,
