KINGSTON HOLD the lead heading into today's final day of the two-day Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA)/Blue Cross National Primary and Junior High Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.

After seven finals, Kingston leads the standings with 71 points followed by St Andrew 55, defending champions Portland 42, St Catherine 37, and St Mary 13.

Won jump events

Kingston got off to a quick start by capturing the boys' and girls' long jump events.

Kerry-Ann Richardson won the girls' long jump with a leap of 4.96 metres ahead of Antonette Grey of Portland (4.72). Lamar Samuels then won the boys' event with 5.61m, in front of Richard Muir of Portland (5.49m).

Martel Brown, also of Kingston, won the boys' high jump with a height of 1.75m over Kirk Plummer of Manchester (1.70m) and his teammate, Nicoy Edwards (1.70m).

Portland's Ann-Kay Laidley, won the girls' shot put Open with a throw of 8.71m followed by Kimberley Cover of Kingston (8.28m) and Shantel Anglin of St Catherine (8.17m).
