Some children at the Bustamante Hospital for Children in St Andrew were on Saturday fêted by GlaxoSmith-Kline in celebration of Child Month.

The pharmaceutical and health,-care company also presented the hospital with a standing scale for its Burn Unit.

Flavia Case, customer marketing executive at GlaxoSmithKline, said the event, which takes place annually, is designed to help the children forget about their 'troubles' for the day.

The day was filled with activities for the children. There was a clown on location to fill their day with laughter and they also had music and food to keep them happy. Staff members and parents were also celebrated by the company.

Mother pleased

"It is good to know that companies in the private sector care about our children," said Maxine McKenzie, mother of a four-year-old child who was admitted to the facility a few months ago with a heart condition.

McKenzie, who was pleased with the services that were provided by the hospital staff, said she donated a kettle and a microwave to the ward in which her daughter was a patient.

She urged other private sector companies to come on-board and assist the facility which is greatly in need of a facelift.
