The annual 'Starlights' presented by Sts Peter and Paul Preparatory School saw a capacity audience last Saturday night at the Little Theatre along Tom Redcam Avenue.
Young talents came out in their numbers performing a variety of pieces such as poetry, dancing, singing, acting, among others. With a prompt start at 6 p.m., the kindergarten choir was up first with My Body. A Jonkunnu piece also impressed and showed the diversity of talent at the school. Susan Huang performed If You're Happy and You Know It in Chinese, and Jordan Nakash showed off her young, yet impressive voice with a German song, Edelweiss.
Poetry to dance
Poetry followed, including the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) silver medallist winners with the original piece, Pully Bag. Also to enter the JCDC this year is the dance, 'Creative folk'. Piano pieces by four students followed, but it was the 'Spanish Dance' that had the audience cheering. The young and adorable male and female dancers performed the meringue together but it was the 'room ram'-like antics of one young man that nearly stole the show.
Displaying a more-than- proficient wining ability, the young man got cheers from the impressed audience.
A fashion show directed by former model, Kimberley Mais-Issa, had the audience enthralled as the students presented a variety of outfits from casual to formal wear.
Great dub piece
Tinielle Chuck got a good response to her dub piece as well. But the students weren't the only ones to get in on the fun, with emcee and parent, Peter Ruddock, doing impersonations that had the audience in stitches.
He did impersonations of Michael Manley, Edward Seaga and Antonnette Haughton, among other popular personalities.
The parents also came out for a rock piece by MWB1 performing Rihanna's Umbrella. The kids played the instructors in true rock- 'n-roll style as the young singer belted out the lyrics, while the moms acted as back-up dancers with umbrellas as props.
The piece looked well organised and fun. The variety show continued with a rap piece called 'Rich Boys', and the teachers showed off their dancing abilities with a gospel piece.
The show displayed the talent of the youngsters at the preparatory school.
