The Editor, Sir:This is my response to Ian Boyne's Sunday column of May 25;Ian:
Thank you for a very reasoned discourse about the issue of homosexuality not just in Jamaica, but internationally. We don't live in a bubble and we should recognise that before we can advance from the state of 'developing, we need to modernise our thinking'.
I agree with you that the flagrant display of homosexuality can be uncomfortable, even for me, but I also share your sentiment that they absolutely have a right to live free from fear and violence. We need to monitor our own anxieties about these issues because many times it is more about our perception than what is real.
Embarrassed
P.S. I was totally embarrassed by Mr Golding. I did not think the interviewer was as skilful as many are making him out to be. I think Bruce Golding is "big fish in a small pond" and that Portia is a perfect beating stick. I think he is simple and I am still flabbergasted as to why people give him so much credit. Further, he lacks eloquence and communicative sophistication, plus, I don't think he is quick on his feet. Remember in the election campaigns, many argue that Portia is not 'world-stage' ready? I wonder how they explain this colossal failure by Bruce?
But then again, many in Jamaica believe that he did well!
I am, etc,
