The Editor, Sir:
Permit me a little space to join my voice in praise of the late Daisy Orane. I met Mrs Orane as a young lawyer in the 1980s when I joined the City Of Kingston Co-op Credit Union. Mrs Orane was the secretary of the credit union and I remember going to my first AGM and seeing this beautiful and stately lady on the platform.
Over the years, I would have reason to deal with her when I joined the staff of COK even after she had retired from the board. The reason was that she continued for over 20 years to condense the verbatim notes of the AGMs into what was produced as the minutes of each annual general meeting. She did this even after she was no longer able to attend the meetings. What was remarkable was that she started to do this chore even before computers were widely used and she had to type each page herself.
Mrs Orane was a true example of what a credit union volunteer is and was one of the pioneering women of our movement. She will be greatly missed. My condolences to Douglas, Carole and Marguerite and the rest of her family.
I am, etc,
ALOUN NDOMBET
