THE EDITOR, Sir:THE ISSUE of dual citizenship has indeed become a burning one, and I find that the two major political parties have certainly lost their way on this one. The National Democratic Movement has been as silent as a sheep that has already lost its way.
There seems to be the suggestion by both parties and 'political analysts' that the only way to determine what the people really think about this issue is by way of a general election. This seems to be the only chance for a floundering, disoriented People's National Party to regain power and a ruling Jamaica Labour Party administration, hit by high world food prices and daily increases in the price of oil, to see if the electorate still believes in the fast-fading illusion of paradise promised.
Make history again
The hard fact is that the country just cannot afford another general election at this time to satisfy power-hungry politicians, with the rising inflation and a soon matching murder rate this could not be a viable option for us.
In the history of this country, there has only been one referendum. This is certainly a more peaceful, cost-effective, national method of hearing what the average person really thinks about this issue. Let's make history again, Mr Prime Minister, referendum #2.
I am, etc.,
