Anxiety for peace and goodwill
published: Saturday | May 31, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

The anxiety for peace and goodwill is felt throughout the land and the ball is at the feet of the government to take the decisive action against the murderers.

Among my many recom-mendations to combat crime and violence are capital and corporal punishment.

It does not make sense to me to be offering huge sums of money and making appeals for infor-mation leading up to the arrest of the person or persons committing these murders; thereafter, if tried and found guilty only to be incarcerated into freedom (so to speak).

Tears are flowing all over the land, because the policemen and policewomen are out there to protect us are being ambushed and gunned down.

The recent killing of the two policemen brought grief and will certainly hinder community policing which is being initiated.

What of hanging?

I think the nation needs to know what is preventing the resumption of hanging. In Genesis 9:6, it says, "whosoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God made he man."

In any country undergoing upheaval, development is retarded in all aspects - economically, educationally, socially etc.

Therefore, our nation's number one enemy - crime and violence -- need to be controlled urgently.

I am, etc.,
